carol has 2 new boyfriends now. out with nicholas cage, in with james caviezel and gary allen.

or lack therof
i like saying that. i say it as often as i can. sometimes twice in the same conversation. i also like saying therefore. in french, therefore is donc, pronounced with a long o. hey, did you know that conservation and conversation are nearly identical? move the letters around a little, there you have it. what if you have a conservation conversation? dang that's hard to type.

going to the ball game tomorrow night. taking the 3 boys. gonna be fun. we'll stop off at McD's first and have a couple big n tastys and large fries to fill them up. that way i don't have to buy too many 9 dollar hot dogs... my friend joe gave me the tickets, very nice. last year he gave carol and i 2 tickets to a blues game. cool.

so guess what, wal mart has all their christmas crap out. it's september. wtf? pretty soon, christmas in july will be normal. i also just got word that kmart has their 2003 labor day merchandise out...

i've got another project to do, kinda like one i did in march of '01. it was called the Roadshow then. basically it's a web presentation that describes our new fancy web tool, which we dubbed the Digital Library. anyway, it'll give me something to do here at work. that's what i get for whining about nothing to do. sheesh.

slowness
describes my job. it used to be fun, entertaining, something new each day. now i literally have nothing to do. every once in a while a little smattering of work comes in, and i complete it promptly. it's great for surf time, but bad on the hours, they just drag by. also bad on the friday status report, when i'm looking through my sent email for anything that i could remotely count as fodder.

Traffic crash kills 3
An accident on Cartee Road near Highway A on Wednesday evening killed three people and injured three others, authorities said. The accident occurred about 6:25 p.m. in rural St. Francois County, near Farmington.
The victims were identified as Rhonda Hutson, 33, Carolyn Malady, 12, and Mary Riddle, 44, all of Farmington. None of the victims wore seat belts, the patrol said.

carol and i went out to dinner last night, and the kids were at the babysitters. well, around 8:30 we get a call that the babysitter's aunt was just killed in a car accident, along with her little girl who they called cookie. the babysitter didn't want to call us and disturb us. of course, that was silly, we coulda (and woulda!) came straight home. but anyway we did head home when we got the call, how unfortunate. the woman had been to don's church many times, and the little girl that was killed was in carol's sunday school class. carol may have even said the prayer of salvation with the class, who knows. the woman's boy, James, was in my youth group. i don't see him much, but i'll bet he's pretty devastated, obviously so. here's an article on the wreck cached

are weblogs changing our culture? - personally i don't see that. i mean, i'm the only one i know that blogs. i'm sure there are other people that i know that do, but i'm unaware of it. carol blogged for about a week and gave up, i guess it just wasn't fun for her. diffrent strokes for diffrent folks, huh...

today i'm entertaining the thought of opening a computer store. i've actually thrown the idea around many times before, and carol has been my greatest cheerleader. she's an inspiration to me. i'm considering it for two reasons: 1. my job here will not be here forever. they are already priming us for layoffs. i halfway expect to be on that list within a year or less. rumors say layoffs start in Dec, but they are rumors. i'd hate to get laid off right before the holidays. 2. i could do it. i consider myself to be a hard worker. if i would just take that risk to the 'unknown' and go for it, i'd succeed. it's just that initial jump that's hard to do...

found some cool marketing ideas today, including one called autoresponder - it's automated email thats sent out from a service at timed intervals. the idea is to get sales (of course) and discreetly advertise yours and others' products. there are many free ones out there, just type autoresponder into any search engine, you'll see.

would like to get carol's site up and going, too. i believe she could do well if we did some intellgent marketing eg. advertising on wedding sites, gift sites, perhaps giving away a free album to a subscriber each month or so, etc. i just need to get the site finished.

kids were late for school this morning, still not sure what happened. my alarm went off as usual, time was 6:50AM so i got up. about 10 mins later carol came downstairs and said they just said on the radio that it was 8:00. we started looking at clocks and discovered it was. so suddenly the kids were in a frenzy and things got crazy. carol and i have no idea what happened. if my clock was unplugged and the time reset, whoever did it also set my alarm. that's unlikely. i'm more apt to believe that there was an hour overlay last night somewhere, and my clock missed it. everything sped up an hour and my clock must have been out of the time warp zone. odd.

does this count as semi-monday?
i mean, it's weird coming to work and it's Tuesday. on the radio this morning they said something about a contest that would be done tomorrow, and the final vote on thursday, it took me a minute to do the math, realizing that this is not monday. yesterday didn't really seem like a monday, i mean, it was all nice out and we BBQd and all that stuff, what's going on here? maybe I should start taking all mondays off... hmm.. now there's a concept

i'll bet the kids are loving the private school thing. i'm sure mom is surprised that we actually did it. the kids have no idea but they are getting a great deal. shoot, they're off the next 2 fridays in a row, they have really small classes (dylans is the largest with 15 kids), they get (yeah, get) to wear uniforms so no peer pressure there, they are off for 3 weeks at Christmas, then another 2 weeks at Easter. I don't remember getting that many days, walking uphill, both ways, in the snow, etc... all that time off and they still get out of school on May 30.

by the way, that's gonna be a problem. we're supposed to go to Texas for the family reunion around the 25th of May, but it doesn't look like it's gonna happen. Hard to do that over a weekend. 15 hour drive just for 1 1/2 days then 15 hours back. i don't think so... we'll see how it works out. i'm not taking the kids out early if there are tests, etc that last week.
